Final Stretch Goal: Free DLC for backers.

Well, here we are with just 9 days left to the campaign!

To be honest, we did not expect to make it that far, and certainly not that fast.

Our vision for stretch goals was always clear : we would not overcommit, we would not bloat our game, and we would not cause delays because of them. One thing we did want to do as soon as the game launched, however, was to start working on a fully fledged side-adventure DLC called "Throes of The Watchmaker" demanding multiple months of dev, which would expand even more on the world of Sea of Stars and provide additional insight on the narrative overarching all of our games.

To show how grateful we are to everyone who has backed the project, we are announcing that our final stretch goal is to make this DLC free to all backers who pledged for a copy of the game. As it will be better enjoyed without spoilers, that's all we will say about this clockwork conundrum for now.

Oh, and by the way, as we are making this announcement the stretch goal has already been reached, so congratulations to our backers on the free additional content!

We humbly thank you once again for your support. Showing the world your big idea always comes with its fair share of vulnerability and apprehension, but we couldn't feel more blessed with the reception you all gave us.

Additional pledges will help ward against any curve balls as we shoot for maximum quality in everything we touch, but there are no additional stretch goals to work towards as the vision is now officially whole.

Please know that your overwhelming support and response will be carrying us as we focus on building this dream project. We cannot wait for you to set sail across the world of Sea of Stars!

Chrono Trigger Composer Yasunori Mitsuda joins the party!

This is not a stretch goal, and certainly not  a drill.

In a turn of events we have yet to let sink in, the master himself is joining Sea of Stars as a guest composer.

By contributing his legendary musical genius to the project, he will help convey the depth of this fantasy world's story while ensuring its nostalgic roots are paid proper homage. Being such an inspiration for all of us, Mitsuda represents exactly what Sea of Stars needed to feel truly whole.

Once again huge thanks to all our backers, your excitement for our project has been heard world-wide.

Stay tuned, for as soon as we gather our thoughts and ensure we are not dreaming, we will be announcing the final Stretch Goal, something we were meaning to work on for the game post-launch all along, but would love to include for free to our backers.

Announcing Early Backer Exclusive Physical Edition

You have been asking, and we have been listening, so here it is: Sea of Stars physical!

We’re very excited to announce our partnership with Limited Run Games to offer an Early Backer Exclusive Physical Edition, for PC and consoles.

Featuring a unique alternate cover by artist Bryce Kho, this edition is made available to early adopters exclusively. 

This is also a good time to clarify where we are in terms of platform support. There are two years left of production on Sea of Stars, and we are at the dawn of a new console generation, meaning that our dev efforts are coupled with the mapping of this changing landscape.

This makes it too early to commit to any specific platforms for the moment. Our promise to you is simple : we want to be wherever the players are, so please, make your voice heard if you want to ensure a specific platform is offered at launch.

Rest assured that we are in touch with all major platform holders, and that the Sabotage team has extensive porting experience. As we assess demand and technical challenges alike, we will be prioritizing to maximize satisfaction across Sea of Stars’ growing fanbase.

All we can guarantee for now is that this is going to be a high quality product, and that no one will be stuck with a copy they don’t want. We know this might demand a minor leap of faith, but your backing of this add-on will be fully refundable, no questions asked, should the platform of your choice be missing once the game is ready to ship.

We wanted to hold until we had more specifics, but the demand for physical has been truly overwhelming, so we hope you will celebrate this announcement with us as the best we can offer at the moment!

Worldwide shipping is included in the price (DDU), to keep things simple for all. As the CAD/USD rate fluctuates a lot, the price will be bound to CAD.

Stretch Goal #4: New Game+ and Alternate Ending!

Oh wow, the behind-the-scenes documentary is confirmed!  Let’s make this next stretch goal about the game, shall we?

New Game+ and Alternate Ending!

There are certain unwritten laws when it comes to RPGs, such as “There should be an optional boss that’s harder than the official final boss”, or “I should get a fair warning at the last save point telling me it’s time to take care of the optional content if I want 100% completion”. 

The latter will reward players with an Alternate Ending, connecting a few additional dots and providing even more closure to the adventure of Sea of Stars.


New Game+, on top of the basics you would expect of being absolutely overpowered especially in the early chapters, will also come with updated balancing to optional bosses, providing the completionist types with the ultimate challenge, and also the ultimate achievements.

As with the Single Player+ mode, since we want to avoid bloating the production and causing delays, these additions would be delivered in the form of a free content update (patch), something we would start working on the moment Sea of Stars releases. 

Keep your eyes peeled for something big this Friday, as we will be announcing something a lot of you have been asking for... In the meantime, we humbly thank you once again for helping us in making this dream project come true. <3     

Stretch Goal #3: Behind-The-Scenes Documentary

My, there are way more people aboard the SaboTrain than we anticipated!

Time to announce Stretch Goal #3, then. We hear from a lot of you who are interested in an inside look at game studio life and production. We’re more than happy to oblige!

For this next stretch goal, a smaller one, we would love to hire the director who shot and edited our Kickstarter video, to bring you exclusive dev interviews and an intimate look at Sabotage’s daily dev life.

Shot over two years through monthly visits, this short documentary would capture the emotional journey of going through the production of Sea of Stars.

Meetings, playtests, concept art, coding, ups and downs and studio antics would be packaged and presented to you shortly before the release of the game.

Of course, we're aware of the social distancing measures currently in place, and we're taking the situation very seriously. In the meantime we'd still be capturing raw footage as we go, acknowledging this remote work chapter as a part of the journey.

Oh, and by the way, two major announcements are coming next week. It seems things are about to get… physical, and, well, melodic.
